The average hydrogen import price stood at $474 per thousand cubic meters in June 2023, falling by -44.9% against the previous month. Overall, the import price saw a abrupt setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in October 2022 when the average import price increased by 57% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $1.1 per cubic meter in December 2022; however, from January 2023 to June 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Germany ($904 per thousand cubic meters), while the price for Belgium ($306 per thousand cubic meters) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+0.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
Hydrogen Price in France (FOB) - 2023
In June 2023, the average hydrogen export price amounted to $219 per thousand cubic meters, declining by -80.4% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate a abrupt slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in December 2022 an increase of 100% month-to-month. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $1.2 per cubic meter. From January 2023 to June 2023, the the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was Luxembourg ($2.2 per cubic meter), while the average price for exports to Germany ($178 per thousand cubic meters) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Luxembourg (+17.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Hydrogen Imports in France
Hydrogen imports into France surged to 30M cubic meters in 2022, rising by 131% compared with the year before. Over the period under review, imports showed a strong expansion. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, hydrogen imports soared to $8.4M in 2022. Overall, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $8.5M in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
