Hydrogen Price in Hungary (FOB) - 2023
In June 2023, the average hydrogen export price amounted to $967 per thousand cubic meters, surging by 5.6% against the previous month. In general, export price indicated a perceptible increase from June 2022 to June 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +4.7% over the last twelve-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on June 2023 figures, hydrogen export price increased by +16.9% against March 2023 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in September 2022 an increase of 30% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $1.2 per cubic meter in January 2023; however, from February 2023 to June 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Slovakia ($6.1 per cubic meter), while the average price for exports to Ukraine ($557 per thousand cubic meters) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Slovakia (+11.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Hydrogen Price in Hungary (CIF) - 2022
In 2022, the average hydrogen import price amounted to $1 per cubic meter, falling by -51.7% against the previous year. Overall, the import price saw a deep downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when the average import price increased by 311% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $7.3 per cubic meter. From 2021 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($12 per cubic meter), while the price for Slovakia ($0.7 per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+14.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
Hydrogen Exports in Hungary
Hydrogen exports from Hungary soared to 1.5M cubic meters in 2022, with an increase of 107% against 2021. Overall, exports, however, recorded a abrupt contraction. The exports peaked at 2M cubic meters in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, hydrogen exports soared to $1.3M in 2022. In general, exports posted strong growth. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
