Ice Cream Price in Italy (FOB) - 2023
The average ice cream export price stood at $4,640 per ton in August 2023, dropping by -4.9% against the previous month. Overall, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in July 2023 an increase of 17% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $4,906 per ton in February 2023; however, from March 2023 to August 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Switzerland ($7,586 per ton), while the average price for exports to Belgium ($2,431 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Switzerland (+4.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Ice Cream Price in Italy (CIF) - 2023
The average ice cream import price stood at $4,645 per ton in July 2023, declining by -2.3% against the previous month. Over the period from July 2022 to July 2023, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.5%. The growth pace was the most rapid in November 2022 an increase of 22% month-to-month. The import price peaked at $4,757 per ton in June 2023, and then dropped slightly in the following month.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was France ($5,806 per ton), while the price for Luxembourg ($3,186 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Greece (+4.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Ice Cream Exports in Italy
For the fourth year in a row, Italy recorded growth in shipments abroad of ice cream, which increased by 2.1% to 90K tons in 2022. Overall, total exports indicated a strong expansion from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +12.4% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +42.0% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 29%. The exports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.
In value terms, ice cream exports expanded slightly to $377M in 2022. In general, total exports indicated resilient growth from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +15.6% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +54.6% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by 35% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.

The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.4% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, ice cream imports rose modestly to $146M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +9.9% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 20%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
