World Imports of Distributors And Ignition Coils
In 2022, purchases abroad of distributors and ignition coils increased by 0.9% to 239M units, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.6% from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 18% against the previous year. Global imports peaked at 245M units in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, ignition coil imports shrank to $2B in 2022. Overall, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. In value terms, the United States ($510M) constitutes the largest market for imported distributors and ignition coils worldwide, comprising 25% of global imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Mexico ($174M), with an 8.6% share of global imports. It was followed by Germany, with an 8.2% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in the United States amounted to +1.5%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Mexico (-2.3% per year) and Germany (-0.5% per year).
Import Prices By Country

Germany (8.3M units), Brazil (7.6M units), Italy (6.4M units), Poland (6.3M units) and India (5.5M units) held a little share of total exports.
Exports from China increased at an average annual rate of +3.0% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Turkey (+58.9%), Thailand (+21.3%), Poland (+16.6%), India (+11.0%), Italy (+3.8%), Brazil (+2.2%) and Japan (+1.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Turkey emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the world, with a CAGR of +58.9% from 2012-2022. The United States experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Mexico (-1.4%) and Germany (-9.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Turkey (+8.4 p.p.), China (+6.3 p.p.), Thailand (+3.9 p.p.) and Poland (+1.8 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the global exports, while Mexico and Germany saw its share reduced by -1.6% and -5.7% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, China ($553M) remains the largest ignition coil supplier worldwide, comprising 28% of global exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Japan ($275M), with a 14% share of global exports. It was followed by the United States, with a 10% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in China stood at +7.6%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Japan (-0.4% per year) and the United States (-0.6% per year).
Export Prices By Country
The average ignition coil export price stood at $7.3 per unit in 2022, with a decrease of -4.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 21% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $8.2 per unit. From 2018 to 2022, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.
