Lard Price in Serbia (CIF) - 2023
The average lard import price stood at $1,667 per ton in September 2023, waning by -1.6% against the previous month. Overall, the import price showed a slight slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in March 2023 an increase of 5.3% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $1,902 per ton in December 2022; however, from January 2023 to September 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was Montenegro ($2,035 per ton), while the price for Italy stood at $1,646 per ton.
From November 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Montenegro (+1.6%).
Lard Price in Serbia (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average lard export price amounted to $1,633 per ton, rising by 15% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.0%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 an increase of 20%. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $1,657 per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Bosnia and Herzegovina ($1,631 per ton), while the average price for exports to Montenegro stood at $1,629 per ton.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Montenegro (+1.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
Lard Imports in Serbia
After three years of growth, supplies from abroad of lard decreased by -13.3% to 1.9K tons in 2022. In general, total imports indicated buoyant growth from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +8.0% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +26.0% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 44% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 2.2K tons, and then contracted in the following year.
In value terms, lard imports totaled $3.5M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 109% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

Lard Exports in Serbia
In 2022, shipments abroad of lard decreased by -2.1% to 124 tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Over the period under review, exports recorded a perceptible slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 0.7% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 139 tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, lard exports rose significantly to $203K in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +3.9% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed in certain years. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
