Leather Apparel Price in France (CIF) - 2023
The average leather apparel import price stood at $93.1 per unit in October 2023, shrinking by -22.5% against the previous month. Overall, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in April 2023 when the average import price increased by 32% m-o-m. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $160 per unit. From May 2023 to October 2023, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In October 2023, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($208 per unit), while the price for Tunisia ($34.6 per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From October 2022 to October 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+13.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Leather Apparel Price in France (FOB) - 2023
The average leather apparel export price stood at $647 per unit in October 2023, picking up by 345% against the previous month. Overall, the export price enjoyed a noticeable expansion. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In October 2023, the country with the highest price was Hong Kong SAR ($1,525 per unit), while the average price for exports to Kyrgyzstan ($5.6 per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From October 2022 to October 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the UK (+4.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Leather Apparel Imports in France
After two years of decline, purchases abroad of apparel of leather or of composition leather increased by 11% to 2.3M units in 2022. Overall, imports, however, recorded a abrupt decline. Imports peaked at 2.8M units in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, leather apparel imports contracted to $202M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a abrupt setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 1%. Imports peaked at $240M in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

For the third consecutive year, France recorded decline in overseas shipments of apparel of leather or of composition leather, which decreased by -6.9% to 590K units in 2022. Overall, exports saw a abrupt shrinkage. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at 1M units in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, leather apparel exports rose sharply to $201M in 2022. In general, exports saw a perceptible decline. The exports peaked at $234M in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
