Lentil Price in Brazil (CIF) - 2023
In July 2023, the average lentil import price amounted to $1,203 per ton, flattening at the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in October 2022 when the average import price increased by 6.5% m-o-m. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $1,296 per ton. From November 2022 to July 2023, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was Canada ($1,216 per ton), while the price for Argentina totaled $737 per ton.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (+3.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
Lentil Price in Brazil (FOB) - 2022
The average lentil export price stood at $3,209 per ton in 2022, with an increase of 24% against the previous year. Overall, export price indicated a pronounced expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, lentil export price increased by +22.4% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 an increase of 39%. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($6,194 per ton), while the average price for exports to Bolivia ($1,658 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Uruguay (+47.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Lentil Imports in Brazil
In 2022, lentil imports into Brazil rose significantly to 17K tons, growing by 5.9% against 2021. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a pronounced increase from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.6% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by -21.8% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 46% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of 21K tons. In value terms, lentil imports soared to $20M in 2022. Overall, imports continue to indicate a significant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 70% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.

Lentil Exports in Brazil
