Lentil Price in Egypt (CIF) - 2022
The average lentil import price stood at $1,295 per ton in 2022, rising by 28% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.7%. The import price peaked at $1,315 per ton in 2014; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the countries with the highest prices were Russia ($1,295 per ton) and Australia ($1,295 per ton), while the price for Canada ($1,295 per ton) and Turkey ($1,295 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Turkey (+2.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Lentil Price in Egypt (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average lentil export price amounted to $1,173 per ton, jumping by 42% against the previous year. In general, the export price continues to indicate a moderate expansion. The export price peaked at $1,204 per ton in 2014; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the countries with the highest prices were Libya ($1,173 per ton) and Jordan ($1,173 per ton), while the average price for exports to Sudan ($1,173 per ton) and Syrian Arab Republic ($1,173 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Djibouti (+17.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Lentil Imports in Egypt
In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in supplies from abroad of lentils, when their volume decreased by -13.7% to 87K tons. Over the period under review, total imports indicated strong growth from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +14.5% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +50.2% against 2019 indices. In value terms, lentil imports totaled $112M in 2022. Overall, imports, however, showed significant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 40% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.

Lentil Exports in Egypt
