Lentil Price in Thailand (CIF) - 2022
In 2022, the average lentil import price amounted to $2,220 per ton, shrinking by -34.7% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, enjoyed a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 99%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $3,400 per ton, and then dropped significantly in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($4,844 per ton), while the price for the United Arab Emirates ($297 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Tanzania (+23.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average lentil export price stood at $2,838 per ton in 2022, surging by 102% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price showed a measured increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the average export price increased by 172% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in the near future.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Maldives ($5,003 per ton), while the average price for exports to South Africa ($1,183 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United Arab Emirates (+9.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Lentil Imports in Thailand
In 2022, the amount of lentils imported into Thailand soared to 201 tons, jumping by 82% against the previous year's figure. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a deep contraction.
In value terms, lentil imports skyrocketed to $446K in 2022. In general, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern.

Lentil Exports in Thailand
In 2022, shipments abroad of lentils decreased by -64.2% to 92 tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Overall, exports, however, enjoyed notable growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 130%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 258 tons, and then declined sharply in the following year.
In value terms, lentil exports contracted remarkably to $262K in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a strong increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 139%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $363K, and then declined notably in the following year.
