Lentil Price in Uganda (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average lentil export price amounted to $1,300 per ton, rising by 4% against the previous year. In general, the export price showed a remarkable increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 220% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $2,575 per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($2,691 per ton), while the average price for exports to Democratic Republic of the Congo ($1,202 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Sudan (+390.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Lentil Price in Uganda (CIF) - 2022
In 2022, the average lentil import price amounted to $1,132 per ton, declining by -14% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a noticeable decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 38% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $1,547 per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Kenya ($1,203 per ton), while the price for the United States ($623 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United Arab Emirates (+7.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Lentil Exports in Uganda
For the fourth consecutive year, Uganda recorded growth in shipments abroad of lentils, which increased by 14% to 389 tons in 2022. Overall, exports saw a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 350%. The exports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.
In value terms, lentil exports surged to $505K in 2022. In general, exports posted a significant increase. Lentil Imports in Uganda
