Liquefied Butanes Price in Chile (CIF) - 2023

The average liquefied butanes import price stood at $445 per ton in September 2023, rising by 11% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a pronounced decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in October 2022 when the average import price increased by 22% m-o-m. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $741 per ton. From November 2022 to September 2023, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was South Korea ($1,223 per ton), while the price for Argentina totaled $430 per ton.

From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Argentina (-2.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

The average liquefied butanes export price stood at $442 per ton in September 2023, increasing by 11% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a noticeable setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in November 2022 an increase of 63% month-to-month. The export price peaked at $906 per ton in December 2022; however, from January 2023 to September 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Peru.

From September 2022 to September 2023, the rate of growth in terms of prices for the Dominican Republic amounted to +0.4% per month.

Liquefied Butanes Imports in Chile

In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in purchases abroad of liquefied butaneses, when their volume decreased by -10.6% to 108K tons. In general, total imports indicated a significant increase from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +21.7% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +80.1% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 42% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of 121K tons, and then declined in the following year.

In value terms, liquefied butanes imports reduced to $75M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a significant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 163% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $76M, leveling off in the following year.
