Live Fish Price in Hungary (FOB) - 2022

In 2022, the average live fish export price amounted to $3,548 per ton, rising by 22% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price showed a perceptible expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the average export price increased by 493% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $16,868 per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($15,211 per ton), while the average price for exports to Romania ($2,976 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Germany (+14.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average live fish import price amounted to $7,909 per ton, rising by 105% against the previous year. In general, the import price showed a prominent increase. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Sri Lanka ($32,388 per ton), while the price for the Czech Republic ($2,410 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Sri Lanka (+11.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Live Fish Exports in Hungary

In 2022, shipments abroad of live fish decreased by -9.9% to 2.5K tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Overall, exports, however, enjoyed a significant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 178% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 3.1K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, live fish exports rose rapidly to $8.7M in 2022. In general, exports saw a abrupt descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 17%.

Live Fish Imports in Hungary

For the third year in a row, Hungary recorded decline in supplies from abroad of live fish, which decreased by -73.2% to 70 tons in 2022. In general, imports saw a significant decline. The smallest decline of -30.8% was in 2021.

In value terms, live fish imports dropped markedly to $552K in 2022. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a dramatic shrinkage. The smallest decline of -23.6% was in 2021.
