Live Fish Price in Kenya (FOB) - 2022
The average live fish export price stood at $19,655 per ton in 2022, surging by 5% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a mild shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 23% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $27,377 per ton. From 2019 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($29,079 per ton), while the average price for exports to the United Arab Emirates ($7,985 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Germany (+1.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

In 2022, the average live fish import price amounted to $16,079 per ton, growing by 13% against the previous year. Overall, the import price recorded buoyant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when the average import price increased by 69%. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $22,140 per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Thailand ($77,561 per ton), while the price for Tanzania ($7,782 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Tanzania (+15.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, overseas shipments of live fish decreased by -10.9% to 203 tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. In value terms, live fish exports reduced to $4M in 2022. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a resilient increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +14.3% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +49.5% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 39%.
