Live Fish Price in South Korea (CIF) - 2022
In December 2022, the average live fish import price amounted to $8,873 per ton, surging by 8.2% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in February 2022 when the average import price increased by 100% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $35,290 per ton in March 2022; however, from April 2022 to December 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Japan ($11,468 per ton), while the price for China ($6,586 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From December 2021 to December 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (+1.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

The average live fish export price stood at $15,164 per ton in December 2022, approximately reflecting the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in February 2022 when the average export price increased by 28% m-o-m. The export price peaked at $17,184 per ton in May 2022; however, from June 2022 to December 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was the United States ($26,307 per ton), while the average price for exports to Japan ($12,504 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From December 2021 to December 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Vietnam (-0.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
Live Fish Imports in South Korea
In 2022, overseas purchases of live fish decreased by -3.5% to 32K tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. In general, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 6.5% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 33K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, live fish imports dropped to $228M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a perceptible contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 11% against the previous year.

Live Fish Exports in South Korea
After two years of decline, overseas shipments of live fish increased by 0.2% to 3.6K tons in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a abrupt shrinkage.
In value terms, live fish exports fell to $54M in 2022. In general, exports, however, recorded a mild descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 20%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $59M, and then declined in the following year.
