Live Fish Price in Tanzania (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average live fish export price amounted to $1,448 per ton, with an increase of 2.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a abrupt setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when the average export price increased by 183%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $10,151 per ton. From 2016 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($7,292 per ton), while the average price for exports to Kenya ($112 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Hong Kong SAR (+10.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average live fish import price amounted to $5,059 per ton, rising by 76% against the previous year. Overall, import price indicated a pronounced increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, live fish import price increased by +113.7% against 2018 indices. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Zambia ($61,759 per ton), while the price for China ($1,472 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Singapore (+14.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, exports of live fish from Tanzania stood at 672 tons, remaining relatively unchanged against 2021 figures. In general, exports enjoyed a significant expansion.
