Live Fish Price in the United States (CIF) - 2023
The average live fish import price stood at $13,660 per ton in July 2023, with an increase of 3.1% against the previous month. In general, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in January 2023 when the average import price increased by 11% m-o-m. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $15,542 per ton. From February 2023 to July 2023, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was South Korea ($27,219 per ton), while the price for the Philippines ($4,832 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Philippines (+2.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Live Fish Price in the United States (FOB) - 2023
In July 2023, the average live fish export price amounted to $5,102 per ton, reducing by -32.5% against the previous month. Overall, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in March 2023 an increase of 107% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $17,269 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to July 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($7,866 per ton), while the average price for exports to Canada ($4,216 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to South Korea (+1.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.
Live Fish Imports in the United States
For the fourth year in a row, the United States recorded growth in overseas purchases of live fish, which increased by 0.4% to 4K tons in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a strong expansion from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +11.4% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +38.2% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 35% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.
In value terms, live fish imports dropped modestly to $82M in 2022. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 39% against the previous year.

Live Fish Exports in the United States
For the fourth consecutive year, the United States recorded growth in shipments abroad of live fish, which increased by 85% to 6.5K tons in 2022. Overall, exports saw significant growth. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, live fish exports surged to $56M in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a slight reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 32%.
