In July 2023, the average magnesium import price amounted to $5,820 per ton, surging by 32% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, showed a perceptible decrease. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $7,897 per ton in August 2022; however, from September 2022 to July 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was Israel ($8,887 per ton), while the price for China ($3,488 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Israel (+3.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

In 2022, the average magnesium export price amounted to $8,499 per ton, surging by 102% against the previous year. Overall, export price indicated a temperate increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, magnesium export price increased by +120.2% against 2019 indices. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
