The average magnesium import price stood at $4,023 per ton in July 2023, declining by -7.4% against the previous month. In general, the import price saw a mild curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in May 2023 when the average import price increased by 27% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $4,880 per ton in July 2022; however, from August 2022 to July 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was the UK ($22,469 per ton), while the price for China stood at $3,418 per ton.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the UK (-0.8%).
Magnesium Price in Japan (FOB) - 2022
The average magnesium export price stood at $3,103 per ton in 2022, jumping by 22% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The export price peaked at $3,178 per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
