Maize (Green) Price in Latvia (CIF) - 2024
In January 2024, the average maize (green) import price amounted to $3,914 per ton, growing by 98% against the previous month. Overall, import price indicated a measured increase from January 2023 to January 2024: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +2.6% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on January 2024 figures, maize (green) import price increased by +97.5% against December 2023 indices. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Germany ($7,906 per ton), while the price for Uzbekistan ($1,435 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2023 to January 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Spain (+4.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In January 2024, the average maize (green) export price amounted to $6,938 per ton, surging by 78% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The export price peaked at $8,236 per ton in October 2023; however, from November 2023 to January 2024, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major export markets. In January 2024, the country with the highest price was Lithuania ($8,181 per ton), while the average price for exports to Estonia stood at $5,951 per ton.
From January 2023 to January 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Lithuania (+0.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
Maize (Green) Imports in Latvia
In 2022, the amount of maize (green) imported into Latvia soared to 1.5K tons, picking up by 36% against 2021. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a prominent expansion from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +8.0% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +58.2% against 2020 indices. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
