Maize (Green) Price in Malaysia (FOB) - 2024
The average maize (green) export price stood at $838 per ton in March 2024, shrinking by -6.9% against the previous month. In general, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in February 2024 an increase of 49% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $1,006 per ton in November 2023; however, from December 2023 to March 2024, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Singapore.
From March 2023 to March 2024, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Singapore amounted to -0.4% per month.
Maize (Green) Price in Malaysia (CIF) - 2024
In March 2024, the average maize (green) import price amounted to $483 per ton, surging by 3.1% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, showed a slight contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in January 2024 an increase of 18% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $595 per ton in March 2023; however, from April 2023 to March 2024, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was China ($1,379 per ton), while the price for Thailand ($210 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From March 2023 to March 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United Arab Emirates (0.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
Maize (Green) Exports in Malaysia
Maize (green) exports from Malaysia reduced to 28K tons in 2022, declining by -12.7% against the year before. Overall, exports showed a slight shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 15% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 32K tons, and then contracted in the following year.
