Maize (Green) Price in Romania (CIF) - 2024

The average maize (green) import price stood at $1,759 per ton in January 2024, increasing by 5.9% against the previous month. Over the period under review, import price indicated a noticeable increase from January 2023 to January 2024: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +2.4% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on January 2024 figures, maize (green) import price decreased by -8.3% against October 2023 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in October 2023 an increase of 74% month-to-month. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $1,917 per ton. From November 2023 to January 2024, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($2,868 per ton), while the price for Iran ($1,141 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From January 2023 to January 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (+7.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Maize (Green) Price in Romania (FOB) - 2022

In 2022, the average maize (green) export price amounted to $521 per ton, waning by -3.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed temperate growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when the average export price increased by 421%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $1,978 per ton. From 2021 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Moldova ($6,221 per ton), while the average price for exports to Italy ($363 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Moldova (+13.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Maize (Green) Imports in Romania

In 2022, supplies from abroad of maize (green) decreased by -14% to 7.6K tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Overall, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 15% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of 8.9K tons, and then reduced in the following year.

In value terms, maize (green) imports dropped modestly to $12M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +4.2% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 20%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $12M, and then contracted modestly in the following year.
