Maize (Green) Price in Spain (FOB) - 2024
In January 2024, the average maize (green) export price amounted to $1,960 per ton, reducing by -10.3% against the previous month. In general, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in July 2023 when the average export price increased by 31% month-to-month. The export price peaked at $2,186 per ton in December 2023, and then shrank in the following month.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In January 2024, the country with the highest price was the UK ($3,215 per ton), while the average price for exports to Portugal ($904 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2023 to January 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Andorra (+1.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Maize (Green) Price in Spain (CIF) - 2024
In January 2024, the average maize (green) import price amounted to $1,339 per ton, increasing by 69% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a perceptible curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in September 2023 when the average import price increased by 157% month-to-month. The import price peaked at $1,962 per ton in January 2023; however, from February 2023 to January 2024, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In January 2024, the country with the highest price was Honduras ($3,375 per ton), while the price for Portugal ($175 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2023 to January 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by France (+7.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Maize (Green) Exports in Spain
In 2022, the amount of maize (green) exported from Spain reached 121K tons, flattening at 2021 figures. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.9% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 32%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 127K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, maize (green) exports rose to $188M in 2022. Over the period under review, total exports indicated resilient growth from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +17.1% over the last three years.
