In 2022, the average maize (green) import price amounted to $2,522 per ton, remaining stable against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a strong increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 an increase of 192% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $3,638 per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Egypt ($2,604 per ton), while the price for the United Arab Emirates totaled $2,022 per ton.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Egypt (+21.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
