Maize Price in Luxembourg (CIF) - 2023
The average maize import price stood at $1,037 per ton in May 2023, declining by -44.6% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price, however, enjoyed a mild expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in December 2022 when the average import price increased by 505% month-to-month. The import price peaked at $5,123 per ton in January 2023; however, from February 2023 to May 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In May 2023, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($7,020 per ton), while the price for France ($404 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From May 2022 to May 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belgium (+1.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Maize Price in Luxembourg (FOB) - 2023
In May 2023, the average maize export price amounted to $2,726 per ton, with a decrease of -70.1% against the previous month. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a resilient increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in February 2023 when the average export price increased by 924% against the previous month. The export price peaked at $9,114 per ton in April 2023, and then shrank markedly in the following month.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In May 2023, the country with the highest price was Germany ($8,581 per ton), while the average price for exports to France ($1,268 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From May 2022 to May 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Germany (+27.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.
Maize Imports in Luxembourg
In 2022, maize imports into Luxembourg declined remarkably to 12K tons, waning by -38.9% against the year before. In general, imports continue to indicate a drastic downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 30%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 20K tons, and then plummeted in the following year.
