Maize Price in the Netherlands (CIF) - 2023
In June 2023, the average maize import price amounted to $367 per ton, approximately reflecting the previous month. Overall, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in October 2022 when the average import price increased by 59% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $412 per ton in June 2022; however, from July 2022 to June 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($759 per ton), while the price for Poland ($304 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belgium (+2.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Maize Price in the Netherlands (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average maize export price amounted to $377 per ton, reducing by -19.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the average export price increased by 68%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $466 per ton, and then plummeted in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($1,361 per ton), while the average price for exports to Germany ($335 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the UK (+16.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Maize Imports in the Netherlands
In 2022, the amount of maize imported into the Netherlands dropped modestly to 5.1M tons, which is down by -2.5% on 2021 figures. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a drastic downturn.
In value terms, maize imports stood at $1.7B in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +8.0% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 21% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

Maize Exports in the Netherlands
For the third consecutive year, the Netherlands recorded decline in shipments abroad of maize, which decreased by -14.2% to 360K tons in 2022. In general, exports showed a sharp decline.
In value terms, maize exports declined sharply to $136M in 2022. Overall, exports recorded a deep contraction. The smallest decline of -9.5% was in 2020.
