In 2022, the average manganese dioxide import price amounted to $682 per ton, which is down by -9.7% against the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate a deep setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 45% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $2,980 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was China ($1,192 per ton), while the price for Italy ($616 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+3.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
Manganese Dioxide Imports in Nigeria
In 2022, after three years of growth, there was decline in purchases abroad of manganese dioxides, when their volume decreased by -0.9% to 72 tons. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted a significant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 325% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 73 tons, leveling off in the following year.
In value terms, manganese dioxide imports declined to $49K in 2022. Overall, imports, however, showed a significant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 184% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $55K, and then reduced in the following year.
