Manuka Price in Australia (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average manuka export price amounted to $7,514 per ton, falling by -16.4% against the previous year. In general, export price indicated temperate growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, manuka export price decreased by -22.9% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when the average export price increased by 22% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $9,741 per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was China ($20,510 per ton), while the average price for exports to the United Arab Emirates ($3,344 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to China (+10.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Manuka Price in Australia (CIF) - 2023
The average manuka import price stood at $5,218 per ton in August 2023, waning by -30.8% against the previous month. In general, the import price showed a slight shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in June 2023 an increase of 98% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $7,536 per ton in July 2023, and then reduced remarkably in the following month.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was New Zealand ($20,627 per ton), while the price for Malaysia ($1,483 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by New Zealand (+1.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Manuka Exports in Australia
For the fourth consecutive year, Australia recorded growth in shipments abroad of manuka, which increased by 15% to 5.5K tons in 2022. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +12.7% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, manuka exports reduced modestly to $41M in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +4.1% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 12% against the previous year.

The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by -1.0% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 67% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of 7.9K tons; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022.
In value terms, manuka imports expanded significantly to $41M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +4.0% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations in certain years.
