Margarine and Shortening Price in Latvia (CIF) - 2023
In September 2023, the average margarine and shortening import price amounted to $2,026 per ton, which is down by -4.9% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in January 2023 an increase of 26% month-to-month. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $2,984 per ton. From February 2023 to September 2023, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Sweden ($4,825 per ton), while the price for Poland ($1,812 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Sweden (+1.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average margarine and shortening export price stood at $3,942 per ton in September 2023, growing by 21% against the previous month. In general, the export price continues to indicate a slight expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in December 2022 an increase of 69% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $9,969 per ton in January 2023; however, from February 2023 to September 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
