MDF Price in Indonesia (FOB) - 2022
The average MDF export price stood at $381 per cubic meter in 2022, picking up by 43% against the previous year. In general, export price indicated perceptible growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, MDF export price increased by +74.6% against 2020 indices. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($663 per cubic meter), while the average price for exports to Saudi Arabia ($272 per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Iraq (+4.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
MDF Price in Indonesia (CIF) - 2022
In March 2022, the average MDF import price amounted to $418 per cubic meter, stabilizing at the previous month. Over the last twelve months, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.3%. The growth pace was the most rapid in May 2021 an increase of 9.1% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs in March 2022.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was China ($600 per cubic meter), while the price for India ($293 per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
From March 2021 to March 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+3.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
MDF Exports in Indonesia
In 2022, shipments abroad of MDF decreased by -10.2% to 313K cubic meters, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Overall, exports saw a deep slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 10%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 423K cubic meters. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, MDF exports skyrocketed to $119M in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +10.9% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

MDF Imports in Indonesia
In 2022, approx. 128K cubic meters of MDF were imported into Indonesia; waning by -9% on the previous year. Overall, total imports indicated resilient growth from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.0% over the last three years. In value terms, MDF imports rose markedly to $54M in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a remarkable increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +12.2% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +65.1% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 56%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
