MDF Price in Lithuania (CIF) - 2023
In September 2023, the average MDF import price amounted to $589 per cubic meter, with a decrease of -5.4% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in October 2022 an increase of 21% m-o-m. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $748 per cubic meter. From November 2022 to September 2023, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Turkey ($1,124 per cubic meter), while the price for Romania ($439 per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Ukraine (+1.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
MDF Price in Lithuania (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average MDF export price amounted to $687 per cubic meter, rising by 36% against the previous year. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the average export price increased by 38%. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $1,017 per cubic meter in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($1,698 per cubic meter), while the average price for exports to Poland ($482 per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Russia (+6.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.
MDF Imports in Lithuania
In 2022, mdf imports into Lithuania contracted to 124K cubic meters, shrinking by -10.8% against 2021. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.5% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 28%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 139K cubic meters, and then contracted in the following year.
In value terms, MDF imports expanded rapidly to $74M in 2022. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a significant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 67% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

MDF Exports in Lithuania
MDF exports from Lithuania shrank remarkably to 15K cubic meters in 2022, reducing by -46.3% against 2021. In general, exports showed a significant curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 46%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at 29K cubic meters in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, MDF exports contracted markedly to $10M in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, enjoyed a noticeable expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 101%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $14M, and then dropped dramatically in the following year.
