MDF Price in the Czech Republic (CIF) - 2023
The average MDF import price stood at $818 per cubic meter in June 2023, with a decrease of -3.2% against the previous month. In general, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in December 2022 an increase of 15% m-o-m. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $889 per cubic meter. From January 2023 to June 2023, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was Austria ($992 per cubic meter), while the price for Ukraine ($514 per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Ukraine (+0.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
MDF Price in the Czech Republic (FOB) - 2023
In June 2023, the average MDF export price amounted to $595 per cubic meter, which is down by -1.9% against the previous month. In general, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in April 2023 an increase of 12% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $697 per cubic meter in December 2022; however, from January 2023 to June 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Sweden ($804 per cubic meter), while the average price for exports to Poland ($441 per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Sweden (+1.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
MDF Imports in the Czech Republic
In 2022, approx. 111K cubic meters of MDF were imported into the Czech Republic; with a decrease of -20.7% compared with the year before. In general, imports showed a pronounced decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 18%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 140K cubic meters, and then reduced rapidly in the following year.
In value terms, MDF imports shrank to $89M in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated resilient growth from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +15.1% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +52.4% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 50% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $92M, and then contracted modestly in the following year.

MDF Exports in the Czech Republic
In 2022, overseas shipments of MDF decreased by -14.6% to 57K cubic meters for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.3% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 24%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 66K cubic meters, and then contracted in the following year.
In value terms, MDF exports expanded slightly to $35M in 2022. In general, total exports indicated buoyant growth from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +19.0% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +68.6% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 49% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
