Meat and Poultry Price in Mexico (CIF) - 2022
The average meat and poultry import price stood at $2,180 per ton in 2022, increasing by 11% against the previous year. Overall, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when the average import price increased by 23% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $3,046 per ton. From 2020 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Brazil ($3,162 per ton), while the price for the United States ($2,087 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (+0.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
Meat and Poultry Price in Mexico (FOB) - 2022
The average meat and poultry export price stood at $5,740 per ton in 2022, approximately reflecting the previous year. Overall, export price indicated a slight increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, meat and poultry export price increased by +40.6% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when the average export price increased by 40%. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($6,529 per ton), while the average price for exports to China ($1,723 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to South Korea (+2.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.
Meat and Poultry Imports in Mexico
In 2022, approx. 2.1M tons of meat and poultry were imported into Mexico; with an increase of 13% on the previous year. Overall, imports enjoyed a significant increase.
