Meat and Poultry Price in Russia (CIF) - 2022
The average meat and poultry import price stood at $2,682 per ton in 2022, waning by -4.3% against the previous year. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a perceptible descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the average import price increased by 14%. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $3,469 per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Uruguay ($4,150 per ton), while the price for Argentina ($1,964 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Canada (+8.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Meat and Poultry Price in Russia (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average meat and poultry export price amounted to $2,075 per ton, falling by -10% against the previous year. In general, export price indicated a moderate expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, meat and poultry export price increased by +24.9% against 2016 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when the average export price increased by 33%. The export price peaked at $2,306 per ton in 2021, and then dropped in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Saudi Arabia ($3,633 per ton), while the average price for exports to Kazakhstan ($1,311 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Hong Kong SAR (+18.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Meat and Poultry Imports in Russia
In 2022, purchases abroad of meat and poultry increased by 3% to 486K tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a abrupt descent.
In value terms, meat and poultry imports shrank modestly to $1.3B in 2022. In general, imports, however, showed a abrupt decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 1.9%.

Meat and Poultry Exports in Russia
In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas shipments of meat and poultry, when their volume decreased by -6.8% to 435K tons. In general, total exports indicated a resilient expansion from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +14.6% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 52%.
In value terms, meat and poultry exports fell dramatically to $903M in 2022. Over the period under review, total exports indicated buoyant growth from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +18.3% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +65.7% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 44%.
