Meat Price in the UK (CIF) - 2022
The average meat import price stood at $4,640 per ton in 2022, increasing by 3.3% against the previous year. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 11% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $4,888 per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Australia ($8,533 per ton), while the price for Denmark ($2,316 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Ireland (+1.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Meat Price in the UK (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average meat export price amounted to $4,320 per ton, remaining stable against the previous year. In general, the export price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 24%. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($7,338 per ton), while the average price for exports to South Africa ($1,645 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Hong Kong SAR (+7.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Meat Imports in the UK
For the third year in a row, the UK recorded decline in supplies from abroad of meat, which decreased by -4% to 614K tons in 2022. Over the period under review, imports saw a abrupt slump.
In value terms, meat imports fell slightly to $2.8B in 2022. In general, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 1%.

Meat Exports in the UK
In 2022, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in shipments abroad of meat, when their volume increased by 7.1% to 395K tons. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a abrupt curtailment.
In value terms, meat exports rose rapidly to $1.7B in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +1.7% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
