Medical Instruments Price in Latvia (FOB) - 2022
The average medical instruments export price stood at $93,734 per ton in 2022, remaining stable against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price showed a pronounced downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when the average export price increased by 89% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $493,604 per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($349,871 per ton), while the average price for exports to Estonia ($17,868 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Netherlands (+13.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.
Medical Instruments Price in Latvia (CIF) - 2024
In February 2024, the average medical instruments import price amounted to $75,262 per ton, dropping by -11.2% against the previous month. Overall, import price indicated a strong increase from February 2023 to February 2024: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +5.5% over the last twelve-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on February 2024 figures, medical instruments import price increased by +36.3% against October 2023 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in March 2023 when the average import price increased by 34% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $84,752 per ton in January 2024, and then fell in the following month.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In February 2024, the country with the highest price was Italy ($329K per ton), while the price for Germany ($22,109 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From February 2023 to February 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Cyprus (+73.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Medical Instruments Exports in Latvia
After two years of decline, shipments abroad of instruments used in medical sciences decreased by 0% to 931 tons in 2022. Overall, exports posted a significant expansion. The smallest decline of 99.9% was in 2020. The exports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
In value terms, medical instruments exports reduced slightly to $87M in 2022. In general, total exports indicated a significant expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +21.3% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +78.6% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 49% against the previous year.

In general, imports showed significant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 291%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, medical instruments imports dropped to $65M in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a significant expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +24.9% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +94.9% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 80%.
