Methanol Price in the Czech Republic (CIF) - 2023
In August 2023, the average methanol import price amounted to $361 per ton, falling by -7% against the previous month. In general, the import price showed a noticeable slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in April 2023 when the average import price increased by 8.5% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $650 per ton in August 2022; however, from September 2022 to August 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was Germany ($444 per ton), while the price for Poland stood at $349 per ton.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (+0.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
Methanol Price in the Czech Republic (FOB) - 2022
The average methanol export price stood at $647 per ton in 2022, falling by -72.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, posted temperate growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 181%. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $2,360 per ton in 2021, and then plummeted in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Austria ($950 per ton), while the average price for exports to Hungary ($551 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the UK (+15.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Methanol Imports in the Czech Republic
In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in supplies from abroad of methanol (methyl alcohol), when their volume decreased by -17.4% to 79K tons. In general, imports saw a slight setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 11%.
In value terms, methanol imports fell to $38M in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated buoyant growth from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +11.9% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +49.6% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 69%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $43M, and then reduced in the following year.
