In July 2023, the average mica; waste import price amounted to $934 per ton, dropping by -2.3% against the previous month. Over the last eleven-month period, it increased at an average monthly rate of +3.3%. The growth pace was the most rapid in October 2022 an increase of 24% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $957 per ton in June 2023, and then declined modestly in the following month.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was India ($989 per ton), while the price for Sri Lanka totaled $618 per ton.

From August 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by India (+3.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

In 2022, the average mica; waste export price amounted to $3,055 per ton, waning by -8.4% against the previous year. In general, the export price saw a noticeable slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when the average export price increased by 19% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $4,298 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was India ($50,236 per ton), while the average price for exports to the Philippines amounted to $2,260 per ton.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to India (+28.8%).

After two years of decline, supplies from abroad of mica; wastes increased by 37% to 286 tons in 2022. Overall, imports, however, recorded a deep slump.

In value terms, mica; waste imports soared to $185K in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a drastic downturn.

Mica; Waste Exports in Japan

In 2022, overseas shipments of mica; wastes increased by 4.5% to 17 tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, exports, however, recorded a noticeable contraction.

In value terms, mica; waste exports dropped modestly to $51K in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +4.7% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 9.5% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $53K, and then fell slightly in the following year.
