Milled Rice Price in Brazil (CIF) - 2023
In July 2023, the average milled rice import price amounted to $563 per ton, falling by -1.7% against the previous month. Over the last twelve-month period, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.5%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in December 2022 an increase of 6.9% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $573 per ton in June 2023, and then fell modestly in the following month.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was Argentina ($882 per ton), while the price for Paraguay ($527 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Argentina (+4.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Milled Rice Price in Brazil (FOB) - 2023
The average milled rice export price stood at $613 per ton in July 2023, falling by -12.3% against the previous month. Over the last twelve months, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.0%. The growth pace was the most rapid in October 2022 an increase of 39% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $699 per ton in June 2023, and then reduced in the following month.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was the United States ($749 per ton), while the average price for exports to Switzerland ($246 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Cuba (+3.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Milled Rice Imports in Brazil
In 2022, the amount of semi-milled or wholly milled (bleached) rice imported into Brazil skyrocketed to 498K tons, with an increase of 28% compared with the year before. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +8.3% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 29% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of 507K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, milled rice imports surged to $238M in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a resilient increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +14.4% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by -2.0% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 53% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $243M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

Milled Rice Exports in Brazil
In 2022, approx. 328K tons of semi-milled or wholly milled (bleached) rice were exported from Brazil; surging by 18% against the previous year. In general, exports, however, showed a pronounced decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 35%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 496K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, milled rice exports stood at $165M in 2022. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a perceptible reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 38%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $242M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
