In 2022, the average milled rice import price amounted to $927 per ton, surging by 7.9% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the average import price increased by 14% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $1,028 per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
As there is only one major supplying country, the average price level is determined by prices for the United Arab Emirates.
From 2012 to 2022, the rate of growth in terms of prices for the United Arab Emirates amounted to -0.1% per year.

The average milled rice export price stood at $829 per ton in 2022, dropping by -38.5% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 131% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $1,450 per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($2,864 per ton), while the average price for exports to Turkey ($311 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Australia (+9.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the amount of semi-milled or wholly milled (bleached) rice exported from Iran soared to 3.2K tons, growing by 56% compared with the year before. In general, exports posted a resilient expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 121%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 4.8K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, milled rice exports contracted slightly to $2.6M in 2022. Overall, total exports indicated resilient growth from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +13.8% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports decreased by -28.5% against 2020 indices.
