Milled Rice Price in Thailand (FOB) - 2023
In July 2023, the average milled rice export price amounted to $579 per ton, flattening at the previous month. Over the period from July 2022 to July 2023, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.4%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in November 2022 an increase of 20% month-to-month. The export price peaked at $581 per ton in June 2023, and then fell modestly in the following month.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was Hong Kong SAR ($909 per ton), while the average price for exports to the Philippines ($346 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Iraq (+2.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Milled Rice Price in Thailand (CIF) - 2023
The average milled rice import price stood at $1,444 per ton in July 2023, with an increase of 20% against the previous month. Over the period from July 2022 to July 2023, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.5%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in January 2023 an increase of 41% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $1,506 per ton in November 2022; however, from December 2022 to July 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was Australia ($9,355 per ton), while the price for India ($658 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Australia (+21.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Milled Rice Exports in Thailand
In 2022, the amount of semi-milled or wholly milled (bleached) rice exported from Thailand surged to 6.7M tons, with an increase of 25% against 2021 figures. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +9.6% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, milled rice exports skyrocketed to $3.5B in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a mild decline.

Milled Rice Imports in Thailand
In 2022, purchases abroad of semi-milled or wholly milled (bleached) rice decreased by -60.9% to 5.7K tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. In general, imports faced a abrupt decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 113%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 19K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, milled rice imports contracted markedly to $6.2M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a noticeable descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 97% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $14M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
