Millet Price in Nepal (CIF) - 2022
The average millet import price stood at $278 per ton in 2022, waning by -2.3% against the previous year. Overall, import price indicated a resilient expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +7.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 45% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $284 per ton in 2021, and then fell in the following year.

Millet Price in Nepal (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average millet export price amounted to $890 per ton, falling by -1.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, export price indicated a buoyant expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +6.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, millet export price decreased by -4.1% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the average export price increased by 79%. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $928 per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Canada ($1,372 per ton), while the average price for exports to Hong Kong SAR ($431 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Japan (+7.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Millet Imports in Nepal
In 2022, purchases abroad of millet decreased by -8.7% to 20K tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.2% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 28% against the previous year.
In value terms, millet imports reduced to $5.6M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +9.6% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period.
