Mixed Fertilizer Price in New Zealand (CIF) - 2023
The average mixed fertilizer import price stood at $602 per ton in August 2023, picking up by 4.6% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, recorded a pronounced reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in February 2023 an increase of 38% against the previous month. The import price peaked at $1,418 per ton in November 2022; however, from December 2022 to August 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was Finland ($733 per ton), while the price for Indonesia ($295 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Saudi Arabia (0.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Mixed Fertilizer Price in New Zealand (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average mixed fertilizer export price amounted to $1,064 per ton, growing by 9.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, export price indicated temperate growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, mixed fertilizer export price increased by +47.4% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 an increase of 86% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($3,309 per ton), while the average price for exports to New Caledonia ($744 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Papua New Guinea (+18.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Mixed Fertilizer Imports in New Zealand
In 2022, overseas purchases of mixed fertilizers decreased by -27.4% to 223K tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Over the period under review, imports showed a deep setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 7.9% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of 360K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, mixed fertilizer imports skyrocketed to $236M in 2022. In general, total imports indicated a strong expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +18.8% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +69.3% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 44%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
