Molasse Price in Greece (CIF) - 2023
The average molasse import price stood at $287 per ton in August 2023, reducing by -19.5% against the previous month. Overall, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in March 2023 when the average import price increased by 62% month-to-month. The import price peaked at $356 per ton in July 2023, and then contracted notably in the following month.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was Romania ($414 per ton), while the price for Bulgaria ($227 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Romania (+5.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Molasse Price in Greece (FOB) - 2023
The average molasse export price stood at $333 per ton in August 2023, remaining stable against the previous month. Overall, the export price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in October 2022 an increase of 59% m-o-m. The export price peaked at $408 per ton in January 2023; however, from February 2023 to August 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major export markets. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was Cyprus ($373 per ton), while the average price for exports to North Macedonia amounted to $329 per ton.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Cyprus (+1.6%).
Molasse Imports in Greece
In 2022, supplies from abroad of molasses decreased by -17.3% to 15K tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. Overall, imports recorded a deep downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 13% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of 23K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, molasse imports fell to $3.5M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.2% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 34% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $4.4M.
