Molluscs Price in Lithuania (CIF) - 2022
The average molluscs import price stood at $4,768 per ton in 2022, rising by 21% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price saw a resilient expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the average import price increased by 31%. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($8,304 per ton), while the price for Poland ($1,822 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Peru (+8.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Molluscs Price in Lithuania (FOB) - 2023
In September 2023, the average molluscs export price amounted to $3,842 per ton, dropping by -27.5% against the previous month. Over the period under review, export price indicated a strong increase from September 2022 to September 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +5.9% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on September 2023 figures, molluscs export price decreased by -27.5% against August 2023 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in January 2023 an increase of 83% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $5,298 per ton in August 2023, and then declined sharply in the following month.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was Ukraine ($6,980 per ton), while the average price for exports to Germany ($2,632 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Ukraine (+15.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Molluscs Imports in Lithuania
After three years of growth, supplies from abroad of molluscs (scallops, mussels, cuttle fish, squid and octopus) decreased by -29.9% to 802 tons in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a buoyant expansion from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +11.1% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 63%.
In value terms, molluscs imports dropped significantly to $3.8M in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a prominent expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +13.0% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 45%.
