Molybdenum; Wire Price in the Netherlands (FOB) - 2022

In 2022, the average molybdenum; wire export price amounted to $86,216 per ton, waning by -15.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 27% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $110,291 per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was France ($124,695 per ton), while the average price for exports to Ireland ($12,643 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Iran (+31.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

The import price peaked at $91,042 per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the highest price was recorded for prices from the UK ($98,251 per ton) and China ($94,764 per ton), while the price for Germany ($78,530 per ton) and Sweden ($90,252 per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Sweden (+2.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

For the third consecutive year, the Netherlands recorded decline in overseas shipments of molybdenum; wires, which decreased by -28.5% to 1.8 tons in 2022. Overall, exports continue to indicate a precipitous shrinkage. The smallest decline of less than 0.1% was in 2020.

In value terms, molybdenum; wire exports contracted sharply to $151K in 2022. Over the period under review, exports faced a sharp decline. The smallest decline of -5.2% was in 2020.
