Mullite Price in the Netherlands (CIF) - 2023
In August 2023, the average mullite import price amounted to $354 per ton, which is down by -40.2% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in January 2023 when the average import price increased by 96% m-o-m. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $743 per ton. From February 2023 to August 2023, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was the United States ($354 per ton), while the price for China amounted to $295 per ton.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (+0.2%).
Mullite Price in the Netherlands (FOB) - 2022
The average mullite export price stood at $412 per ton in 2022, jumping by 34% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.9%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Denmark ($606 per ton), while the average price for exports to Germany ($392 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Germany (+2.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Mullite Imports in the Netherlands
For the fourth year in a row, the Netherlands recorded growth in overseas purchases of mullites, which increased by 16% to 63K tons in 2022. In general, total imports indicated a strong expansion from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +18.9% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +68.2% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 37% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
In value terms, mullite imports surged to $22M in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated significant growth from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +25.1% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +96.0% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 32%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

Mullite Exports in the Netherlands
In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in shipments abroad of mullites, when their volume decreased by -18.1% to 38K tons. Overall, exports, however, enjoyed a significant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 88%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 46K tons, and then shrank dramatically in the following year.
In value terms, mullite exports expanded rapidly to $16M in 2022. In general, exports, however, showed significant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by 63% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.
