The average mullite export price stood at $456 per ton in September 2023, reducing by -13.7% against the previous month. In general, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in June 2023 when the average export price increased by 15% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $604 per ton in July 2023; however, from August 2023 to September 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was China ($683 per ton), while the average price for exports to Mexico ($434 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to China (+1.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

The average mullite import price stood at $1,536 per ton in September 2023, increasing by 32% against the previous month. Overall, import price indicated a noticeable expansion from September 2022 to September 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +4.6% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on September 2023 figures, mullite import price increased by +56.5% against May 2023 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in March 2023 when the average import price increased by 63% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $1,710 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to September 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Germany ($2,478 per ton), while the price for Japan ($801 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Canada (+2.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
