Over the period under review, consumption, however, posted buoyant growth. Global consumption peaked at $11.1B in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Consumption By Country

Turkey (203K tons) constituted the country with the largest volume of net fabric consumption, accounting for 55% of total volume. Moreover, net fabric consumption in Turkey exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest consumer, Vietnam (17K tons), more than tenfold. The United States (16K tons) ranked third in terms of total consumption with a 4.4% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume in Turkey totaled +19.0%. The remaining consuming countries recorded the following average annual rates of consumption growth: Vietnam (+4.7% per year) and the United States (+6.4% per year).

In value terms, Turkey ($1.7B) led the market, alone. The second position in the ranking was taken by India ($179M). It was followed by the United States.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Turkey stood at +13.6%. The remaining consuming countries recorded the following average annual rates of market growth: India (+9.5% per year) and the United States (+5.5% per year).

In 2022, the highest levels of net fabric per capita consumption was registered in Turkey (2,369 kg per 1000 persons), followed by Vietnam (167 kg per 1000 persons), the United States (48 kg per 1000 persons) and Pakistan (39 kg per 1000 persons), while the world average per capita consumption of net fabric was estimated at 47 kg per 1000 persons.

In Turkey, net fabric per capita consumption increased at an average annual rate of +17.4% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining consuming countries recorded the following average annual rates of per capita consumption growth: Vietnam (+3.7% per year) and the United States (+5.9% per year).

Production

World Production of Tulles And Other Net Fabrics

In 2022, the amount of tulles and other net fabrics produced worldwide fell modestly to 378K tons, almost unchanged from 2021. Overall, production, however, showed a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the production volume increased by 70% against the previous year. Global production peaked at 1.1M tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, production failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, net fabric production amounted to $4.1B in 2022 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production, however, enjoyed a prominent increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 51%. Global production peaked at $10.5B in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, production remained at a lower figure.

Production By Country

Turkey (210K tons) remains the largest net fabric producing country worldwide, comprising approx. 56% of total volume. Moreover, net fabric production in Turkey exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest producer, China (60K tons), fourfold. The United States (16K tons) ranked third in terms of total production with a 4.2% share.

In Turkey, net fabric production expanded at an average annual rate of +18.6% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: China (+6.7% per year) and the United States (+7.8% per year).

Imports

World Imports of Tulles And Other Net Fabrics

In 2022, overseas purchases of tulles and other net fabrics increased by 7.6% to 71K tons, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. In general, total imports indicated a temperate increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +8.2% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when imports increased by 58%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 109K tons. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of global imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, net fabric imports skyrocketed to $561M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.0% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Over the period under review, global imports hit record highs at $679M in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports By Country

Vietnam was the key importer of tulles and other net fabrics in the world, with the volume of imports recording 17K tons, which was approx. 25% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Indonesia (6.5K tons), Pakistan (6.4K tons) and Uzbekistan (4.1K tons), together committing a 24% share of total imports. Bangladesh (2.9K tons), Sri Lanka (2.6K tons), Brazil (2.3K tons), China (2.2K tons), Belarus (1.7K tons) and Myanmar (1.4K tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to net fabric imports into Vietnam stood at +5.1%. At the same time, Pakistan (+73.1%), Belarus (+46.2%), Myanmar (+31.6%), Sri Lanka (+30.4%), Uzbekistan (+29.0%), Brazil (+23.8%), Bangladesh (+17.8%) and Indonesia (+3.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Pakistan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the world, with a CAGR of +73.1% from 2012-2022. By contrast, China (-14.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Pakistan, Vietnam, Uzbekistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Brazil, Belarus and Myanmar increased by +9, +5.9, +5.8, +3.4, +3.1, +2.8, +2.3 and +1.8 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Vietnam ($147M) constitutes the largest market for imported tulles and other net fabrics worldwide, comprising 26% of global imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Indonesia ($61M), with an 11% share of global imports. It was followed by China, with a 5.9% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Vietnam totaled +7.0%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Indonesia (+5.6% per year) and China (-10.6% per year).

Import Prices By Country

In 2022, the average net fabric import price amounted to $7,939 per ton, with an increase of 13% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, recorded a mild setback. Global import price peaked at $10,143 per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was China ($15,322 per ton), while Uzbekistan ($889 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Uzbekistan (+10.5%), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Exports

World Exports of Tulles And Other Net Fabrics

In 2022, global net fabric exports rose remarkably to 82K tons, growing by 8.4% against the year before. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.0% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when exports increased by 11%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 85K tons. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of the global exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, net fabric exports skyrocketed to $728M in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +2.9% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by 24%. Over the period under review, the global exports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

Exports By Country

In 2022, China (50K tons) represented the key exporter of tulles and other net fabrics, generating 61% of total exports. Taiwan (Chinese) (12K tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 15% share, followed by Turkey (9.9%) and South Korea (4.6%). The following exporters - Hong Kong SAR (1.5K tons) and Belarus (1.3K tons) - each reached a 3.4% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to net fabric exports from China stood at +6.7%. At the same time, Belarus (+76.4%), Turkey (+9.3%) and South Korea (+3.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Belarus emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the world, with a CAGR of +76.4% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Taiwan (Chinese) (-3.8%) and Hong Kong SAR (-12.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of China, Turkey and Belarus increased by +18, +4.4 and +1.6 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, China ($372M) remains the largest net fabric supplier worldwide, comprising 51% of global exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Taiwan (Chinese) ($133M), with an 18% share of global exports. It was followed by Turkey, with an 8% share.

In China, net fabric exports expanded at an average annual rate of +9.6% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Taiwan (Chinese) (-2.6% per year) and Turkey (+2.2% per year).

Export Prices By Country

In 2022, the average net fabric export price amounted to $8,856 per ton, rising by 12% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the average export price increased by 15% against the previous year. The global export price peaked at $10,604 per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Hong Kong SAR ($14,862 per ton), while Belarus ($1,035 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Korea (+4.0%), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
