Newsprint Price in Sweden (FOB) - 2023
In July 2023, the average newsprint export price amounted to $675 per ton, waning by -6.8% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price saw a mild descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in January 2023 when the average export price increased by 5.2% month-to-month. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $925 per ton. From February 2023 to July 2023, the the average export prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major foreign markets. In July 2023, the countries with the highest prices were Finland ($795 per ton) and Italy ($777 per ton), while the average price for exports to China ($567 per ton) and Norway ($593 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the UK (+3.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Newsprint Price in Sweden (CIF) - 2023
In July 2023, the average newsprint import price amounted to $775 per ton, dropping by -8% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a mild expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in January 2023 an increase of 14% month-to-month. The import price peaked at $889 per ton in February 2023; however, from March 2023 to July 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was Germany ($1,033 per ton), while the price for Finland ($591 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Norway (+1.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
Newsprint Exports in Sweden
In 2022, approx. 260K tons of newsprint were exported from Sweden; declining by -30.5% compared with the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, exports recorded a sharp downturn. The smallest decline of -22.4% was in 2020.
In value terms, newsprint exports totaled $199M in 2022. Overall, exports faced a significant contraction.
