The average nickel; unwrought, alloys import price stood at $16,662 per ton in June 2023, falling by -55.7% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a mild increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in April 2023 an increase of 59% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $37,633 per ton in May 2023, and then declined dramatically in the following month.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($36,452 per ton), while the price for South Korea ($3,511 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Thailand (+5.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average nickel; unwrought, alloys export price amounted to $6,696 per ton, reducing by -19.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price saw a deep reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when the average export price increased by 159% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $18,672 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for the United States.
From 2012 to 2022, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Belgium amounted to -0.2% per year.

Nickel; unwrought, alloys imports into China surged to 4.1K tons in 2022, increasing by 106% against 2021 figures. In general, imports posted significant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 108% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, nickel; unwrought, alloys imports soared to $59M in 2022. Overall, imports continue to indicate a significant expansion. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
